Arranging and Implementing a Vaccination Program at your workplace

Programs using GPs to administer the vaccine

Employers and community groups may engage GPs to deliver Panvax H1N1 vaccination programs at some offsite locations, such as a workplace or community venues.

Programs arranged directly between the Doctor or Health Centre may be able to cost the GPs fees to Medicare, please see the Australian Government Medicare Statement documents for details.

Programs using Nurses to administer the vaccine

There are two requirements if Authorised Nurse Immunisers (ANI) will be administering Panvax H1N1.

1) specific training for ANIs involved
2) approval of the program from the Director of Public Health.

  • Specific training and endorsement is required for Authorised Nurse Immunisers (ANIs) to administer the Panvax H1N1 vaccine from multi-dose vials (MDV) without the supervision of a GP. Please see the “Guidelines for Providers Employing Nurse Immunisers in Vaccination Programs” document below.

  • Employers wishing to implement Panvax H1N1 vaccination programs using unsupervised ANIs at their workplaces must also ensure the vaccination program is endorsed by the Director of Public Health.

  • Nurse Immunisers who do not attend the Panvax H1N1 vaccine training conducted by DHHS in 2009 are not endorsed to administer the vaccine from MDV independently (without supervision of a GP).
