What does it mean for travellers to Tasmania?
Tasmania remains open for business and continues to welcome travellers from around Australia and the world.
Many Tasmanian businesses have taken steps to ensure they are pandemic-prepared and to protect their staff and customers from influenza. We need your help too.
While you are travelling in Tasmania, please take the following precautions:
- Cover all coughs and sneezes with a tissue and put used tissues in the rubbish straight away. If you need to spit, use a tissue.
- Wash your hands often. Alcohol-based hand rub (in small pump packs or wipes) is useful for hand hygiene while you are travelling.
- Stand back from other people when you can, especially if you or they have signs of flu (fever and cough).
- Know the signs of flu. Key signs are fever with a cough and/or sore throat. Other common signs are body aches, runny nose, extreme tiredness, vomiting and diarrhoea.
- Avoid crowded places and public transport if you have signs of flu. Keep to yourself as much as you can. If you do need to go out or use public transport, wear a surgical face mask to protect others. You can buy them from most chemists. Always replace a mask after it gets moist, put it straight in the rubbish and wash your hands after handling it.
- If you are at risk of severe illness or worried about how sick you are, seek medical help as soon as you can. In Tasmania phone 1800 358 362 for assessment and advice about what to do. Its a free call, except from mobile phones.
