What does it mean for schools and childcare?
The health and safety of children is of paramount importance to the Tasmanian Government. This does not change during an influenza pandemic. Children may be more susceptible to a pandemic virus and may remain infectious after the onset of symptoms far longer than adults. This presents particular challenges for maintaining school and childcare services.
The Tasmanian Government worked closely with schools and childcare centres in the immediate lead-up to the current influenza pandemic, and will continue to do so in the current phase. Together we are helping all services become pandemic-prepared and to take steps to minimise the spread of illness.
